Obituary of Stewart Andrew Brenton

Stewart Andrew Brenton, husband of Margaret (McDonald) Brenton, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Alton, NS on September 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Douglas Andrew and Reta Viola (Stewart) Brenton. He spent his early years in Charlottetown, PEI. Moving to Sackville, NB in 1941 and then to Saint John, NB in 1945. Stewart was a member of Portland United Church and served on the session and Board of Stewards. He was employed with Baxter Foods as superintendent of the ice cream division for 43 years retiring in 1993. Stewart was involved with Saint John Minor Hockey Association. A member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs. He was a member of the Board of the Saint John School of Nursing. Stewart was a life member of the Hampton Golf and Country Club, serving on the Board of Directors of Hampton Golf Club Ltd., for 26 years. He was Past Master of Albion Lodge and a Royal Arch Mason, and a Director of New Brunswick Masonic Charities and Housing Co Ltd. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Margaret (McDonald) Brenton; his daughter, Sally Brenton-Haden (Andy) of Edmonton, AB; his son, Andrew (Kerry) of Toronto, ON; three grandsons, David and Andrew Turnbull of Edmonton, and Luke Brenton of Toronto; one granddaughter, Ella Brenton of Toronto; two brothers, Arthur Brenton (Fran) of Ottawa, ON and Douglas Brenton (Joan) of Saint John; many nieces and nephews, and his pride and joy, and loving companion his pet, Maggie. Predeceased by his first wife, Jeanette (Wry) Brenton. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 3:00 pm from Portland United Church, followed by a reception in the Church Hall.
