Obituary of Lionel D. H. Hinkley
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lionel D. H. Hinkley of Grand Bay - Westfield, husband of the late Irene (Rule) Hinkley, which occurred on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in England on March 8, 1920, he was a son of the late Herbert and Lillian (Brame) Hinkley. Lionel apprenticed as a tool and die maker in England. He worked with the CVA in England for 30 years until 1966 when he moved to Canada with his family. At the age of 16 Lionel started playing the drums and continued to play for many years. Lionel also held records for the half mile track and field for sprinting. He was a member of the Saint John Lodge #2 F&AM and the Luxor Temple. Lionel was past president of the RCL Branch # 22, Kiwanis of Western Kings and the Saint John Shriner’s Club. He is survived by his children, Carmel (Barry) Sullivan, David (Susan) Hinkley, Cheryl (Ralph) Pickard, John (Maureen) Hinkley and Peter (Sharon) Hinkley; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister, Pamela; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his oldest son, Dennis; sister, Thelma and brother, Derek. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Masonic Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery.
