Obituary of E. Bernice Osborne Piers
E. Bernice Piers Osborne (nee Ferris), formerly of Gagetown NB, wife of the late Raymond H.G. Osborne and the late James R. Piers, was called home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born April 12, 1923, at Jemseg, NB, she was a daughter of the late Reade W. and Nellie L. (Rankine) Ferris. Bernice spent her life as a Registered Nurse, having graduated from the Saint John General School of Nursing, where she was also a life member of the alumni. She took maternity patients in her home at Gagetown as well as working with Dr. Jenkins doing private nursing duty. She volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years, and was the former administrator of "Dufferin Hall" Home for the aged in Saint John. Bernice was also a member of the Jemseg United Baptist Church. She was a nurse by choice- a profession she served with much honour. Bernice is survived by daughter, Linda (Eastwood) Scott (Alvin Scott); granddaughter, Letisha Eastwood (Chris Clark); sister, Madeline Stairs (Karl) of Ottawa; brother, Robert Ferris of Browns Flat; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Ruth; and a brother, Norman. Visiting will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, 634-7424, on Saturday, November 26, 2011 from 12-2pm, at which time the funeral service will take place. An interment will be held the following day at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, in the village of Gagetown. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Diabetes Association, Arthritis Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
