Obituary of Steven Douglas Kingston

KINGSTON, STEVEN D. – Steven Douglas Kingston of Saint John passed away on Sunday, April 08, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a short battle with cancer. Born in Saint John on February 17, 1961, he was a son of the late John and Shirley (Belmont) Kingston. Steve was heavily involved in sports all of his life, but his passion for, and dedication to, the sport of baseball, was second-to-none. Steve played North End Little League for a number of years before moving on to Juvenile, Junior, and Senior ball. A silver medalist at the 1981 Canada Summer Games, Steve played for many championship teams over the years. The winning pitcher for the 1983 Senior National Championship Team, the Saint John Dodgers, Steve was inducted into the 1993 Saint John Sports Hall of Fame along with his teammates. Following his successful years as a player, Steve turned to coaching and won seven provincial Intermediate A Championships. Steve is survived by a son, Luc Fox-Kingston of Ontario; brothers Gary Kingston (Linda) of Grand Bay-Westfield and Jim Kingston of Saint John; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday, April 11 and 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, Saint John, on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
