Obituary of William Thomas Chown

It is with great sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of William "Bill" Chown of Saint John, which occurred on Friday, April 20, 2012 at his residence. Born in Saint John on May 6, 1945 he was a son of the late Harold and Katherine (Allan) Chown. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. His charismatic and kind-hearted nature drew people in, young and old. He was always ready to share the "Billy Chown" philosophy; a friend who has touched the lives of so many. He took great pleasure in the successes and accomplishments of his children. Always seen at the far corners of the football and rugby fields or in his "office" at the rink he wore a quiet pride as a father. He played with them in their childhood years, taught them many life lessons growing up, and was their best friend as they became young adults. Bill loved to spend time at New River with his children and grandchildren it was one of their favorite spots. He enjoyed skiing, riding his Harley and playing a good game of golf with his family and friends. Bill was a former Saint John Mooseheads hockey player. In his younger years Bill also ran in several marathons including the Boston and New York Marathon. He is survived by his children Nathan (Lesley), Nicholas, Mitchell, Quentin, Jillian, Mellanie (David) Keast, Brittany (Thomas) Agrell and Hailey; his wife, Adele; grandchildren, Casey, Riley, Aryia, Gryffin, Gavin, Jamie, Cayden and Jude; his siblings, Norma (Bud) Byers, Eleanor (Frank) Cobbett, Jack (Joan) Chown, Kathleen (Marvin) Crawford, Margaret (Mike) O’Blenis and Debbie (Stephen) Stewart; several nieces and nephews. Bill will be sadly missed by many life-long friends. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Garry and Douglas and his daughter, Bonnie Lynn. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, April 23, 2012 and Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
