Obituary of F. Gertrude Phinney

It is with heavy hearts that the family of F. Gertrude Phinney announces her passing on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on June 4, 1926 in Fairville, NB, she was a daughter of the late John and Ellen (Keleher) Hooley. Gertrude was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson, who brought her so much joy. Gertrude graduated from St. Vincent’s School and the Normal School in Fredericton. She was a teacher in several schools in the Saint John area and retired from Harbour View High School. Gertrude was a member of the C.W.L. She is survived by her children, Rob (Brenda) of Saint John; John (Sandra Patterson) of Saint John; Brian (Patti) of Saint John; Dianne (David) Stephen of Rothesay and Kathy Phinney of Saint John; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jay, Thomas, Michael, Kara, Laura and Patrick; one great-grandson, Jeffrey; three sisters, Rita Hooley, Doreen Ferris and Rose Forestell; two sister-in-laws, Elsie and Ellen Hooley; several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, husband, E. Dempsey Phinney; grandson, Keith Stephen; one sister, Madeline Hooley; two brothers, Frank and Joseph Hooley and two brother-in-laws, Mike Ferris and David Forestell. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9:00 am. Interment to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Children’s Wish Foundation or Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
