Obituary of T. J. Tim Cameron

With his family at his side, Tim passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saturday, April 6, 2013. He was born in Windsor, Ontario to the late Clarence and Mary Cameron in 1950. He moved to Saint John at age seven. He attended Assumption School, St. Rose and St. Malachy’s. He then attended UPEI for his BA and later completed his Masters Degree in Education at UNB Fredericton. Tim has been President & CEO of the Saint John Regional Foundation since 1999 and has worked in the charitable sector for nearly thirty years. He has raised millions of dollars for the hospital. In 2000, Tim earned his professional designation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and in 2009, he received the first-ever Association of Healthcare Philanthropy’s annual Leadership Award. Tim is the former Director of Programs for the New Brunswick Division of the Canadian Red Cross Society and the former Atlantic Director of Fund Development. He served as an International Red Cross disaster delegate in Turkey, Thailand, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. His compassion was ready and needed during his time as Operations Director for the 1998 Swiss Air disaster in Nova Scotia. This past June, Tim was given the Order of the Red Cross; the organization’s highest honour. It recognizes outstanding humanitarian service, dedication, and achievement on behalf of the Red Cross Society and the world at large. He was a member of their national Board of Governors for many years and is Past President, Atlantic Zone. In December 2012, Tim was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. He was an avid outdoors man hiking, biking, kayaking, running and camping. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Cathy (McFarland) Cameron; daughter, Katie (Richard) Mitchell; sons, Michael and Nicholas (Claire Lamont); granddaughter, Lillie; brother, Jim (Peggy) Cameron and sister, Margaret Jo (Ray) Garrett, all of Saint John; parents-in-law, Clarence and Madeline McFarland; brother-in-law, Jim (Sandra); sisters-in-law, Carlene (Ron), Barb (Marshall) and Ann (Levi) and several nieces and nephews. Tim’s belief in the generosity and goodness of people held true though his illness. The community provided tremendous support throughout his lifetime. (Martin Luther King, Jr.) Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
