Obituary of A. Wilber MacLeod

Arthur Wilberforce "Wilber" MacLeod, Q.C., of Rothesay, husband of Judith Ann (Oxley) MacLeod, passed away at home on Thursday, August 01, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on March 13, 1941, he was a son of the late Donald and Ada (Musgrave) MacLeod. Wilber moved to Saint John in 1954, and graduated from Saint John High School. He joined the Merchant Marines shortly thereafter, and as an Officer, travelled all over the world, surfing wherever he could. Upon leaving the Merchant Marines, Wilber attended university, graduating from St. Mary’s University and Dalhousie Law School. He was called to the Bar in 1976, and practiced criminal law at his firm, MacLeod, Macdonald, and Keenan. He was a member of the Law Society of both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and lectured for the Bar admission courses. He was involved with the Moot Court at local High Schools for several years, acting as the presiding judge. In his spare time, Wilber enjoyed building model airplanes, woodworking, walking his faithful dog Tyler, and was a prolific reader of all types of books. He was also a charter member of the Racquet Club. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Wilber is survived by his children, Leslie Anne Valardo (Chris) of Halifax, Wil MacLeod (Jen) of Halifax, and Kathryn Vaughan (Eric) of Saint John; grandchildren Cameron and Emma Valardo, Alexander and Sophia MacLeod, and Stanley and Lillian Vaughan; siblings David MacLeod (Beth) of Grand Bay-Westfield and Michelle MacLeod of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews. Wilber was predeceased by a brother, Donald MacLeod. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 3:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel.
