Obituary of R. Rodney Hannah

It is with great sadness that the family of R. Rodney Hannah of Saint John, husband of P. Marie (Graham) (LeBlanc) Hannah, announces his passing, which occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Saint John on March 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Clifford and Daisy (London) Hannah and step-mother, Bernice (Bishop) Hannah. Rod graduated from Saint John High School in 1945; and from 1947 until his retirement in 1991 worked for various Irving Companies. He lived in Sydney, NS for a time where he was President of the YMCA. He returned to Saint John to complete his career and was the owner/operator of Rod’s Irving Convenience Store in Champlain Heights. He was a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, and a Past President of the Ties and Frills Square Dancing Club. Rod was an avid golfer, and in his younger years always enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his father, brothers and brother-in-law. Rod is survived by eight fabulous children; Barbara, Sandra, Rodney Jr., Nancy, Richard (Heather) and their children Cassie and Jillian, Michele Clays (Michael) and their children Alyssa and Ryan, Charlene LeBlanc Hare (Marc) and daughter Sacha Jackson, James LeBlanc (Marsha) and children Tammy Lawson Auby (Dana) and Wayne Lawson (Meagan); sisters Betty Barton and Eleanor Martin; a brother, Neville (Maxine); a sister-in-law, Patricia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rod was predeceased by a brother, David. Although there will be no formal visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life, which will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 1:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment will take place privately in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
