Obituary of William Robert Carson

William Robert Carson of Rothesay, loving husband of Marma I. (Linton) Carson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born at Saint John on January 23, 1931, he was a son of the late James Morley and Katherine (MacNaughton) Carson. Bill was an investment counselor with Scotia Bond Company and Atlantic Regional Director of Payroll Savings for several years. Always active in his community, Bill served as Lieutenant Governor of the Eastern Canada and Caribbean District of Kiwanis as well as Past President of the Saint John Kiwanis Club. He served as Past Director and Treasurer of the New Brunswick Protestant Orphan’s Home, and served as Deputy Mayor, Councilor, and Public Works Chairman of the Village of East Riverside-Kingshurst for 23 years. He was a Director of the New Brunswick Industrial Development Appeal Board, Chairman of the Rothesay Living Museum, Co-chairman of Enterprise Saint John "Imagine the Possibilities" campaign, treasurer of the Saint John High School Alumni Association, and was a charter member of the Kennebecasis Valley Woodworkers Club. Bill was also an active member of St. David’s United Church, where he sang in the choir for more than 43 years, and served on many committees and the Official Board, of which he was Chair. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed "projects", playing golf, wintering in Florida with Marmie as well as spending time with family at home and the cottage. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Marmie; Bill is survived by his children, Allan Carson (Lise) and their children Nathaniel and Caroline of New Maryland, Bev Farnham (David) and their children Stephanie and Christopher of Quispamsis, Elaine Stewart (Dwight) and their children Michelle Hennessey (Danny), Jonathan, and Michael of Bible Hill, NS, and Sandy McGuire (Paul) and their children Connor, Gregory, and Carrie of Summerside, PE; a sister, Joyce Gregg (Ven. Arthur) of Grand Bay-Westfield; a sister-in-law, Aldra Carson of Bathurst; a special niece, Debbie Abbott of Halifax; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by a sister, Jean Lamb; and by brothers Rex, Jack, and Dr. Don Carson. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM from St. David’s United Church, Rothesay. Interment will take place privately at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice or St. David’s United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
