Obituary of Edith E. Brewer

The death of Edith Elizabeth ‘Timmy" Brewer, wife of Gerald (Gerry) Brewer occurred on October 3, 2013 at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home following a period of declining health. Born in Saint John on January 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late W. Guy Tapley and Rowena Tapley (Stevens). In addition to her husband of 68 years she will be sadly missed by daughter Linda Jennex (Jim), Saint John, and daughter-in-law Fennella Brewer, widow of Steven, Norton, N.B., granddaughters Shelly Dauphinee (Jon) Saint John, Cindy Westra (Doug) Okotoks, Alberta, Bonnie El Sayed (Jamie) Beijing, China and Spencer Brewer, Calgary, and six great grandchildren – Emma, Cate and Will Dauphinee, Pieter and Andrew Westra, and Miara El Sayed. Timmy will always be remembered as out going personality who loved to talk, joke and laugh with her relatives, friends and others - cashier lines!!! Athletic in her youth, she was a member of the YWCA playing basketball, volleyball, etc. In her marriage years she enjoyed badminton, golf and curling. An accomplished bridge player, she also enjoyed a good game of cribbage and Bingo nights. Travelling was a favorite activity fulfilled while accompanying Gerry on trips associated with his work. Following Gerry’s retirement, 19 years were spent wintering in Florida and summering in Cambridge-Narrows, N.B. Holiday trips to the British Isles stood out in her memory. A wonderful wife, excellent mother and great cook are qualities that marked her life. She was a member of the former Central Baptist Church where she was married in 1946. Timmy was the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by brother Guy Tapley Jr. and sister Helen Mayes (Harold). A special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff at the St John St Stephen Nursing Home who showed so much caring and compassion toward Timmy and her family. Funeral arrangements in care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424, keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a interment service will take place at a later date in the family plot in Burtts Corner Cemetery. A service celebrating her life will be held at St. James The Less Church, Renforth, on Monday, October 7 at 2:00 pm following by a reception. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the N.B. Heart and Stoke Foundation, N.B. Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
