Obituary of Ying Hon Lau
With great sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of Mr. Ying Hon Lau at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home in Saint John, NB, late at night on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Mr. Lau was born on August 13, 1919 to the late Mr. On-Po Lau and Mrs. Shou-Wan Wai Lau in Guangdong, China. He had two sisters, the late Mrs. Wai-Jing To and the late Mrs. Suk-Jing Chan. He married the late Choi-Kam Leung in 1944. Throughout his life, Mr. Lau never stopped learning and educating. Mr. Lau was a dedicated teacher and a beloved school principal, who touched the lives of a large number of students. Among them, a significant number emigrated to many corners of the world. Some of them became very successful in their respective fields. After he retired from education, he started learning oriental medicine and became an acupuncturist. He taught acupuncture and massage therapy in addition to his clinical practice. After his second retirement, he moved to Saint John, NB, to stay with his loving daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and George. He was very active in polishing his English and helping out new immigrants to learn English as a second language then. Mr. Lau was a proud first generation Christian who led his children to Christ by his life example. Mr. Lau is survived by his children: Alexander (Julia) Lau of Australia, Yuen-Sheung (Tat-Kit) Lin of Hong Kong, Lydia (George) Tong of Saint John, Bill Lau of the United States; his grandchildren: Daniel Lau, Sharon (Tom) Kennedy, Ka-On (Sujin) Tong , Karrie Tong, Carol (Jackie) Leung, and Esther Lin; his great grandchildren: Samantha and Michael Kennedy, and Vera Tong. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, 130 University Avenue, Saint John. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
