Lawrence Cosman

Obituary of Lawrence Ralph Cosman

The unexpected passing of Lawrence "Larry" Ralph Cosman of Saint John, beloved husband of 51 years to Ruth E. (Kilpatrick) Cosman, occurred on Friday, October 3, 2014 at his residence. Born December 28, 1940 in Saint John, he was a son of the late Ralph and Lottie (Noakes) Cosman. Lawrence was very involved in our community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Saint John Transit Commission, and with the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Y’s Men, and the United Church Presbytery. He was an adherent of the Church of St. Andrew and St. David, and he enjoyed sailing out of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club where he was a lifetime member. He loved being outdoors gardening, especially to care for his fruit trees, raspberry bushes, and his vegetable garden. He was an avid reader and spent many hours doing puzzles, and was a gifted woodworker. He fully supported his Saint John Seadogs, and traveled out of town to see them play as their games brought him great enjoyment. Most of all he loved his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye; his favourite times were those spent with them. Larry worked as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he retired as a Partner in 1995. Following retirement, he continued to work with his clients and received his 50 year pin in January from the Institute of Chartered Accountants. In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, Lawrence is survived by his sons: Gregory, Jeffrey (Judi), and Jim (Julie); daughter, Colleen Spencer (Keith); grandchildren: Bradley, Jacob, Chantel, Emi, Polly, Nicholas, Petra, Annalise, Mackenzie, Taylor, and Grace; sisters, Colleen and Faye; brother, Stephen (Mike);aunt Ida MacPherson and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Allan. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 2 pm. Remembrances to the Church of St. Andrew and St. David, the Salvation Army, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
