Obituary of Mary Eva Vautour Kelly Short

Mary Eva (Vautour) (Kelly) Short, of Saint John, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. Mary was born on October 15, 1923 to the late Amanda Cormier and Antione Vautour in Rexton, NB. Mary is predeceased by her first husband and father of their nine children, James Francis (Jimmy) Kelly, infant son, George Raymond; son, David James and second husband, Douglas DuVernet Short. Mary is survived by her children, John Francis (Eleanor), Mary Agnes Armstrong, William Joseph (Nuan), Margaret Ann (DeeDee-Glenn) Logan, Lynn (David James), Paul Andrew (Brenda Lynn), Daniel Stephen (Eva), Thomas Brian (Bev). Mary also had 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by Doug’s children, Douglas Short Jr., Kathryn Short, Carol Madsen and Joanne Short; and two half-sisters Rita LaPointe and Mary Jane Melanson. Mary had worked as a cook for 25 years at Centracare before retirement and was a member of St. Pius X Church C.W.L. since 1984. Mary had a very strong faith in her God and attended Sunday services at Holy Trinity Church for many, many years. A special Thank-You to Irene and Pat from Riley’s Home Care for their dependable and supportive care. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home (634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, with visiting on Monday, April 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 12:00 pm, from Holy Trinity Church, 21 Canon Street. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Romero House or a charity of the donor’s choice.
