Margaret Scott

Obituary of Margaret Scott

On April 11, 2015, a life well-lived ended peacefully and comfortably. Margaret Scott was in her 104th year and lived independently until the age of 101, when she moved to the Loch Lomond Village. Margaret was the daughter of the late Brunswick and Georgina Thompson. She spent her younger years in Barnesville before moving to East Saint John. She was a past worthy matron and life member of the Eastern Star, as well as a life member of All Saints Anglican Church, where she was active in the ACW and Altar Guild. She was a wonderful seamstress and quilter, and made many of the churches altar linens and choir gowns over the years. Besides her sewing ability, mom was a wonderful cook with a great gift of hospitality. Our home was always a place of welcome to all- friends and strangers alike. We will remember her for her kindness, unconditional love, optimism, patience and wonderful sense of humor. She was a woman of strong Christian faith and incredible strength. Mom loved to dance and brought many smiles over the years while performing her original skits and sometimes outlandish antics. In her earlier years she was a faithful volunteer in many organizations. Her love for her family was a priority in her life and we have been blessed with a beautiful legacy. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Margaret was predeceased by her first husband, William Maxwell, and by her second husband, Clayton Scott, as well as her son, John Maxwell, and grandson, John Maxwell Jr. She was also predeceased by one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Weaver (Bill) of Quispamsis and sons, Bruce Maxwell of Saint John and Rev. Garth Maxwell (Dorothy) of Fredericton, as well as her daughter-in-law Lois Maxwell of Sackville. She is also survived by sisters Betty Brown (Carl) of Danbury, Conn., Jean Kilpatrick (late Ora), Shirley Simpson (late Richard), and Winnie Cooper (Donald). Also left with fond memories are 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 2 to 9 pm. An Eastern Star service will be held at 6:30 pm on Monday. A celebration of her life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 2 pm. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond Village for their wonderful care over the past two years. She loved and was loved by each and every one of them and we are so grateful for the quality of life that they so graciously provided. If desired, donations to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com.
