Obituary of Vera Hutt

It is with appreciation for a long and well-lived life that the family of Vera Hutt, wife of the late William Hutt, announce her passing which occurred on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing.  Born on May 31, 1923, in England, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Howdle) Shepherdson.

Vera was a proud veteran who served during World War II with the British Army (ATS) and met the love of her life, Bill, who was serving overseas.  Vera spent numerous hours volunteering throughout her community.  She was a past president of the Saint John Kindness Club, a lifetime member of the Canadian Red Cross, a member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Canadian Wildlife Association.  Vera also devoted her time volunteering with Key Industries and the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.  She took great comfort in her faith and was actively involved with the former Waterloo Street Baptist Church.

Vera will be lovingly remembered by her children, Robert Hutt (Jean) of Hanwell, Ann Moore (Kenneth) of Nackawic and Barbara Hutt (Kevin Flowers) of Rothesay; precious grandchildren, Alyson Hirtle (Austin), Timothy Hutt (Stephanie), Jeffrey Hutt (Sally) and Kayla Flowers; adored great-grandchildren, Zoe Hirtle, Abigail Hirtle and Katherine Hutt; as well as niece, Susan O’Connell.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her grandson, Scott Moore and brother, Clifford Shepherdson.

Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Vera’s Life which will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 3:00 PM.  Interment will take place in Vera’s hometown of Hull, England, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
