Obituary of James Webb

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of James Aden Webb while surrounded by friends on Oct 5th, 2013. Lifetime resident of Saint John he was born in Fairville, January 3, 1926. He was the 4th son of late Winnie and Pearl (Segee). Jim was a long time member of the Saint Jude's Anglican church and had once held position of vestry. Following in the footsteps of his father Winnie, he started work with Canadian Pacific railway in 1942 at the tender age of 16 and lasted 42 years until his retirement in 1984. During this period he enlisted into the armed forces to assist in the war effort but was refused entry due to his work with the railroad being considered an essential service. He served his country while in that position until the end of the war and beyond. He was active as union representative for BRAC and also held great interest in politics. Jimmy was, for all intents and purposes an avid outdoorsman. Having never been known as much of a hunter or fisherman, his ability to warm the fire with his endless tales of fact and fantasy made him a necessary component around the camps at Musquash and Peltoma Lake. Noble James Webb joined the Luxor Shrine in 1974 and was founding member and first president of Luxor's Railway Unit. Jim believed in the purpose of the organization, helping children receive the care they need from the many Shriner's Hospitals. He was tireless in his efforts to make it work through fund raising and participation in events. Prior to his union with the shrine he was active for many years in the Masonic Lodge joining the association in 1954. Jim also recently received his 50+ membership pin from the Royal Canadian Legion branch 69. Jimmy was hard not to notice. Typically he, and what would be best described as his "dynamic personality", took center stage where ever he was and, for those who really knew him, this was a good place for him to be. If Jim could have one last request he would only ask that everyone remember him for what he tried to do and not so much what he wasn't able to do......and have a drink for old times sake. Survived by his wife of 64 years Mary (nee Evans), sons Dr. Robert Webb (Cathy), Bruce (Linda) and Gary (Jeannine). Grandchildren Glenda Kusch of Vancouver, Adrian of Grand Bay, Vanessa of Oshawa, Jamie and Tony, both of Calgary, along with six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by Brothers Russell, Andrew, Jack and Sister Marjorie. Adopted sister Mary Kamman still resides in Vancouver Island. Visitation will take place at Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Avenue E2M 2L3 on Monday October 7 2013, from 6- 8pm, and Tuesday October 8 2013, from 2- 4pm and 6- 8pm. Funeral Service will be held at Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 1:00 pm Wednesday October 9 2013. Internment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension immediately after the Funeral service. Stories will be exchanged after internment at the Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center accompanied by refreshments and all are encouraged to attend. Masonic Lodge service will take place Monday Evening October 7 2013 at 7pm, and a Legion service will take place on Tuesday October 8 2013, at 7pm. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
