Obituary of Eric Smith

SMITH, ERIC MORTON – He left this earth quickly, the way he wanted, at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, June 26th, 2014. Eric was born June 15, 1930, the son of Aubrey and Mabel (Shanes) Smith. He was predeceased by his wife Carol in November 2006. Survived by son Gene Smith and wife Andrea of Squamish, BC, his daughter Deborah Easton and son-in-law Andyof Nerepis, NB, his grandchildren Stacy and Geoffrey Smith, stepgrandchildren Tara Rivard and Erin Osterberg and Morgan, Raine, Noah andFaith Easton, and one great-grandchild, Shayna Smith. Besides his wife and parents, Eric was predeceased by his friend and sister, Vivian Densem. Eric was a man of music, quick wit, and deep chuckles. He played many nights from Jones’ Creek to St. Stephen, which is how he met Carol. On his wall was a picture of Eric Smith and the Boys, “live on CFBC”. He passed on his love of music and guitars to his children, Gene and Debbie, and a little bit of fiddle, performance and humour to his grandchildren here and there. He ran a service station, worked for Eastern Paper, and lived life as he chose to, in his own home, until his last few days. He built his family, then his home and walked out on his own power. He loved and was very proud of his children and grandchildren and their achievements, and looked after his family well. As he passed, he was telling a story about Martinon, and no doubt it would have ended with a chuckle. Eric will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.At Eric’s request, no visitation will be held. A service of celebration will be held at Castle Fallsview Chapel, 309 Lancaster Ave. on, Monday, June 30th at 11am. A reception will follow at the Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center. For those who wish to honour Eric’s memory, donations to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada will be appreciated by his loved ones.
