Obituary of G. Jack Barnes

Mr. Garland Jackie Barnes “Jack” passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at his residence. Born on December 12, 1947 in Londonderry NS, he was a son of the late Percy “Lorne” and Flora Viola (Burris) Barnes. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Forterm at the Port of Saint John from where he retired in 2008. Jack was a founding member of the Denis Morris Community Center. Also a member of the ILA #273. He was a coach for the Lancaster Centennial Hockey League and a coach and player for the Randolph “Alpine” Baseball League. Jack enjoyed hunting and spending time at his camp in Musquash. Always willing to lend a helping hand he was an all-around neighbourhood handy man. Jack is survived by his loving wife Anita (LeBlanc) Barnes; two sons, Paul (Kim), and Mark (Katherine), both of Saint John; one daughter, Lori (Brian) Boyles of Saint John; his brother, Robert (Sharon) Burris of Saint John; one sister, Lorna Bowers of Truro NS; also survived by one grandson ,Brandon Barnes of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one infant sister Nelda Irene Barnes. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 12 noon from St. Rose of Lima church with Father Gerry White officiating. A Reception will follow the service at the Denis Morris Community Center. Remembrances made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
