Obituary of Michael Leo Bambrick

On Friday, May 2, 2014, Michael Leo Bambrick passed away suddenly but peacefully at home. A devoted husband and father, Mike will be sadly missed by his wife Mary (Hurley), daughters Lisa Harding (John), Lakeville Corner, and Lynn Flewelling (John), Saint John. Born January 18, 1946 in St. John’s NL, Mike was the son of the late Michael and Marjorie Bambrick. In addition to his wife and children, Mike is survived by sisters Louise Kmetz (Michael), New Jersey, Marjorie Medeiros (Louis), New Jersey, Rosalita Bambrick (George), Ottawa, and Sharon Grant, Halifax, grandchildren Thomas, Austin and Brooke Harding, and Katie and Michael Flewelling, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Stella Pike (Gerry), and his brother George Bambrick (Madeline). Mike enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1963 in the Regiment of Canadian Guards. Throughout his career he served in 6 regiments, lived in 5 provinces and served in Germany and Cyprus in Europe. Mike served as the RSM of the Princess of Wales Own Regiment welcoming Princess Diana to Kingston, ON in 1991; a distinction he cherished throughout his career. He served as Base RSM at CFB Wainwright AB. Mike retired from the regular forces in 2001 as Chief Warrant Officer and subsequently served in the reserve with 1RNBR Fredericton. Mike was also actively involved with the Epsilon Y’s Men Club serving as Past President. In retirement, he also joined the Holiday Retirement Corporation serving with Mary as Managers at Chateau Champlain in Saint John, St. Anne’s Court in Fredericton, Rushdale Court in Hamilton, ON, and Kingsdale Chateau in Kingston, ON. In recent years, Mike enjoyed serving as a tour guide and Saint John historian with Ambassatours for the Cruise Ship Industry. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69 and Welsford Golf Club. Mike was an avid golfer, bowler, reader, and historian. Visitation will take place at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, on Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 pm, and 7 to 9 pm, with a Legion service at 7pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Castle “Fallsview” Chapel on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at 1 pm. A reception will follow at Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center.
