Obituary of Gladys Fife

The death of Gladys P. Fife, wife of the late Earl W. Fife, occurred on July 30, 2011 at the Carleton Kirk Lodge, with her daughter by her side. Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia on June 29, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Marie (Bourgeois) Le Gere. Gladys and her husband moved from Joggins to Ontario after the Joggins mines closed in the 1960’s. She then returned to Saint John in 2004 to live with her daughter Carole. Having taught school in Joggins, she continued her teaching in Mississauga and Brampton spanning a career over 40 years. Gladys’ children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and strong faith in her rosary brought her great joy. She will be missed by family and friends who knew and loved her. Gladys is remembered by her daughter Carole Taylor of Saint John, her son William (Wendy) of Hamilton, Ontario. Her grandchildren Bradley Fife, Megan (Agustus) Amaral and their mother Ann Fife. Her great grandchildren Breanna, Rowen and Abbey Fife and Boden, James, and Matthew Amaral all of Ontario. She is also survived by her sister Elsie Como of B.C., as well as several nieces and nephews. A great lover of life, she spent many summers in Prince Edward Island summering with her daughter Carole and Carole's late husband Alban (Al) Taylor, and her special young friends Ken Galbraith, Melissa, Kaylee and Adrian Roach. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brothers Harry, Fred, and her sister Anna MacDonald. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 2-4, and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption. The interment will take place on Thursday August 4, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Cemetery in Joggins Nova Scotia. The family would like to thank the Staff at the Carleton Kirk Lodge for the care and compassion shown to Mom during her stay.
