Obituary of John Killam

The family of the Mr. John Frederick Killam is sad to announce his passing on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Carleton Kirk Lodge Nursing Home following a lengthy decline in health. John was the second child born to the late William and Margaret D. (McRae) Killam in 1931 and was raised on the family farm, Boundary Creek, Westmoreland Co., N.B., thus his special affection for animals. He was married to Lynne A. (Rose) for the past forty-seven years and became a “Westsider” having lived here since 1958. In addition to his wife he is survived by his two daughters, Melissa Doucet, Tracey (Todd) Baird and one son J. Andrew Killam. His six grandchildren were of great pride and importance in his life, -Mitchell and Jared Doucet, Paige, Hannah, and Cameron Baird, and John W. Killam. He is also survived by three brothers, William P. Killam, Duncan, BC, Ryan T. (Brenda) Killam, Boundary Creek,NB,, David G. (Elizabeth) Killam, Annagance, NB and two sisters Helen Anne Carey, Q.C., Halifax, NS, and Marjorie Yarema, Oakville, ON, sisters-in-law Linda Killam, Little River, Albert Co., NB, and Deborah Rose, Saint John. John was a member of Carleton Kirk United Church. He was self-employed, a local builder and for many years was a large “recycler”, having raised many buildings in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He moved Barbour’s General Store and the Little Red School House from King St. to the Market Slip area and relocated the Lighthouse and the Work Bell in preparation for the Royal Visit of Charles and Princess Diana. Although not a well educated man he had a great understanding of engineering and construction. Many thanks to the staff at Carleton Kirk Lodge Nursing Home for their wonderful care and great support while John was in their care, also to Dr. Ian Grant for attending to John’s many health issues. John had many good laughs and happy times with the staff, and they in turn enjoyed his quick wit and dry humour. Also thanks to our many friends who have been with us through “thick and thin” over the past years. We have been truly blessed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., (634-1701). As per John’s request, there will be visitation from 1 to 2 pm, on Wednesday September 28, 2011 at Carleton-Kirk United Church, with the service to be conducted at 2 pm by Rev. Dr. Ron Vincent. Immediately following the service there will be a time for reflection and refreshment in the Thomson Hall. Cremation has taken place, thus we would request no flowers please. Donations in memory of John to Carleton-Kirk United Church, the Animal Rescue League, West Side Food Bank, or Bobby’s Hope Hospice would be appreciated by his family.
