Obituary of Judi Stiles

The death of Judith A Stiles occurred at her residence on November 18, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Ronald and Marjorie Patricia Park (née Ferguson) of Saint John NB.

Judi was born in Moncton, NB and immediately emigrated to Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. She returned to New Brunswick after a few short years, in time to start schooling in Saint John. A graduate of Saint John High School, she went on to further her education at the University of Kings College, Dalhousie University and attained her Masters in Policy Planning and Administration from the prestigious London School of Economics.

An offer from St. Joseph’s Hospital to establish a Discharge Planning and Social Work Department, drew her back to Saint John from a teaching position at St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia. A fortuitous offer it was, as it was at St. Joe’s she met the love of her life, Dr. Jerry Stiles. In the 47 plus years of their marriage, they shared together, whether it be a weekend at their camp on the Digdeguash, a beach in Hawaii, or salmon fishing on the Miramichi. Judi finished her career managing the Child Protection, Adult Protection, Adoption and Child Care and Young Offenders Programs at the behest of the Government of New Brunswick. The colleagues and friends she made in the 27 years she spent with them remain in her heart and thoughts. They are in her words, “amazing people”.

A lover of horses and riding, the stables and barns of Northrup Quarter Horses became her happy place in retirement. “Murphy” her beloved quarter horse, if he could talk, could attest to Judi’s passion for riding. Murphy remains tight lipped about how many times he threw Judi, but admits she quickly remounted. This same determination was evident in her battle with cancer. With dignity and grace, she fought till the end.

In addition to her husband, Jerry, Judi is also survived by her brother Ian.

Special thanks to Dr. Samantha Gray and the amazing nurses and staff in the Oncology Dept. at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home (634-7424). At Judi’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service.
