Obituary of Gerry Abbott
It is with sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Gerry Abbott announces the passing of their beloved mother on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 8, 2023. In a full circle moment Gerry, who was an early hospice volunteer and donor for many years, spent her final days in the extraordinary care of Bobby’s Hospice.
Born in Minto, NB, Gerry was the daughter of the late Bernetta (Melanson) and Alexander Tooke. As the loving wife of the late Allen Abbott of Chance Harbour, Gerry was the devoted mother of two daughters, four sons, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Left to mourn and celebrate her amazing spirit are her children: Patrick (Darin), Joseph (Donna), Catherine Patterson (Paul), Tom (Shelley), Marlene, Jeffery (Kathy), their children and grandchildren, brother Donald (Moncton), special cousin Doris (Minto), special niece, Marilyn (Don Duffy) as well as other dear nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends – all well loved!
Gerry was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Weatherby and Irene Kavanaugh, her parents, her loving husband, and granddaughter Shannon.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In accordance with Gerry’s wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a funeral mass at the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 12:00 pm. With Covid numbers on the rise, wearing a mask is strongly advised. The interment will take place at St. Brendan’s Cemetery, Dipper Harbour at a later date. It is Gerry’s wish that her family and friends celebrate her life and memory by being loving, caring, and kind to one another. Donations may be made to Extra Mural, Bobby’s Hospice, Romero House, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
