Obituary of Maxwell Alwin Frees

It is with great sadness that the family of Maxwell “Max” Frees, of Grand Bay-Westfield, announce his passing on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice, with his daughter by his side.  Born in 1939 in Dalhousie, NB, he was the son of the late Robert and Emma (Donahue) Frees.

Max was a very social person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a passionate golfer and member of the Westfield Golf & Country Club for 50+ years. He also was an avid pool player who played in many tournaments over the years.  The last 3 years he faithfully visited his wife, Sandra, at the Village Nursing Home, enjoyed his Thursday night socials with the boys, Friday nights with neighbors Jim and Suzie, and Sunday dinners with brother-in-law Tom Davidson (Sharon).  He retired from Irving Paper and in his younger years had previously worked at the Admiral Beatty and Brinks. He also had been President of the Saint John Lions Club.

Max is survived by his wife Sandra (Davidson), daughter Tanya (Scott) Mitchell and grandson Max of Buford GA; siblings Isabel (Harry) Hobbs, Perry (Penny) Frees, Holly (the late Charles) Saunders, Elwood (Angie) Frees, Jerry (Norma) Frees, Jill (the late Doug) Blount, Robert (Collette) Frees, Kim (Allan) Miller, Sally (Ron) Frees, and many nieces and nephews.

Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by siblings Aubrey, Wilbert, Carl, Judy (Dundon), John, Bruce, and Tena (MacDonald).

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John.  A Celebration of Life is planned at Westfield Golf & Country Club for June 17, 2023, from 2-4 pm.

For those who wish, donations can be made to the SPCA, Alzheimer’s’ Society, Bobby’s Hospice, or donor’s charity of choice.
