Obituary of Shelden George Foster

It is with profound sadness that the family of Shelden George Foster, beloved husband of Patricia Ann Foster, announce his passing which occurred on February 19, 2023, at the age of 69.

Shelden passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.  His battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life challenges, Shelden stayed strong until the end.  Born in Saint John on May 31, 1953, he was the son of Bernice (Smith) Foster and the late William George Foster.

Shelden had many fond memories of working at the Lantic Sugar Refinery, where he worked as an electrician for 24 years, and earned his instrument mechanic certification.  He later went on to work for the IBEW and Saputo.  Shelden was a very hardworking individual, building his first home and cottage on his own; there was no limit to what he could build or repair.  Shelden was an avid sailor and spent many summers with his family on the Saint John River with the Martinon Yacht Club.  He enjoyed skiing and loved spending time at his cottage on the Washademoak Lake, with family and his beloved friend, pug “Rosie”. Shelden enjoyed his motorcycle, and always remembered the trip he took across Canada with friends in his youth. Shelden was known as a level-headed, kind, individual who was a good listener and was always relied upon by his family for his good advice.

In addition to his devoted wife of 43 years, Patricia, Shelden will be lovingly remembered by his children, Joel Foster and Caitlin Smith (Matthew); grandchild, Maverick Smith; mother, Bernice Foster; sister, Joanne Mullin (Hal); sister and brother-in-law, Raymond & Darlene Ramsay; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Shelden was predeceased by his father William George Foster who he always admired and shared many passions and interests with.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for him at the Saint John Regional Oncology Department.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 7 pm – 9 pm. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
