Obituary of Robert Douglas Rankine

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert “Bob” Rankine, husband of Ramona (Price) announces his passing which occurred on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Shannex Embassy Hall. Bob was born in Fredericton, on December 27, 1933, and was the son of the late Douglas and Doris (Gamble) Rankine.

During his life Bob worked as a contractor and then went on to deliver mail and drive school bus. He married his wife Ramona on May 6, 1955, and they shared many years together. Bob will be remembered as a strong-willed man who was a fighter and never gave up easily. He would often be found at kitchen parties playing the fiddle and was a member of the Park Ave. Fiddlers and the Happy Go Lucky Fiddling groups. Bob liked to go bowling and for long Sunday drives, even if they put Ramona to sleep in the passenger seat. He had a love for nature and enjoyed spending time at his camp in Cambridge Narrows where he would go fishing, another favourite fishing spot for Bob was on the Miramichi where he enjoyed flyfishing.

Bob is survived by his wife Ramona; his daughter, Lori (Stephen Walton) Atkinson; sister Helen Davey; his grandchildren Shala Atkinson and Sean Walton;  as well as his nephews and several friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Mike Davey.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119). In keeping with Bob’s wishes there will be no visiting. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held from Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
