Obituary of Kathy Tingley

On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Katherine Louise Tingley passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family by her side at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Kathy is survived by her husband Donald Tingley, her son Kristopher (Katie) Tingley and her grandchildren Anna and Luke of Browns Flat, her mother Georgina Perkins, her sister Karen Perkins of Saint John, her sister Kimberley (Vince) Cummings of Southfield, siblings-in-law Sandra (Greg) Stewart, Terry (Tanya) Tingley, Julie (Derek) Baxter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her father Lloyd Perkins, and her father-in-law Perley Tingley, and mother-in-law Florence Tingley.

Kathy was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on January 14, 1968. She graduated from Simonds High School, and later went on to study business at Modern Business College in Saint John. She started her career at Saint John Shipbuilding, and eventually went on to work at Irving Oil where she made her career. Kathy devoted many years of her life to working at the Irving Oil Refinery which was her second family. She loved her job and built a career that was fulfilling. She was a dedicated employee and well respected by everyone she encountered during her career. She was always willing to help out with any event or worthy cause, and lend a hand to her coworkers, and many members of the Irving Oil community. What she appreciated about her career was truly the people she got to work with.

Kathy’s greatest love above all was her family. Kathy was a devoted wife with an unequivocal and unwavering love for Donald, her best friend and husband for almost 32 years. They enjoyed taking trips, going out on weekend adventures on their Harley’s, or heading into Fundy on the side by side. She was a proud and loving mother of her only son Kristopher and a loving Nanny to two precious grandchildren Anna and Luke. Kathy was the youngest sister of three sisters, and always enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always there to celebrate every milestone, and never missed a chance to celebrate any family accomplishment with her husband, son, grandchildren, siblings, and special nieces Vanessa and Maria.

Kathy was truly a beacon of light, and the life of the party for all who knew her. She enjoyed travelling and making memories across the world with her friends and family, especially if it was somewhere warm with a beach. She was always planning her next adventure. Her unwavering positivity, sass, and upbeat attitude was a contagious energy loved by all, and will be missed by her family and friends. Her energy was felt in every room she walked into.

One of Kathy’s favorite times of year was summer. She loved to spend time with Donald and their friends camping at the Three Bear’s Campground. Kathy spent many summers at the campground, and was always there to help bring excitement and fun to the park. She had a love for organizing events and bringing happiness to others. Whether it be hosting Bingo, or bringing in a band for a fun Saturday night, she was happy to be there for it all. Kathy was a social butterfly, and enjoyed any chance to get together with her friends. She had so many close friends, too many to list.

It would be wrong to say Kathy lost her battle because she truly never stopped fighting. No matter what, she was always determined to seize every day, and make the most out of any battle she faced. Through her, we know what true resilience and strength looks like. Kathy always recognized the power of a kind word or helping hand from a stranger. Kathy and her family are grateful for the care of the  Nurses and Doctors of 5A South Oncology at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and support to Kathy and her family. A special Thank you to the Irving Oil Family who were so supportive during this difficult time .
