Obituary of Judith Margaret Thom
It is with sadness that the family of Judith Margaret Thom announce her passing on July 28, 2023, at the Carleton-Kirk Nursing Home. Born on October 26, 1953, in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Dennis Thom and mother J. Carolyn (nee Machum) Thom.
Judy is survived by her mother J. Carolyn Thom; brothers: Paul (Georgette), Don (Lynn), and Robert (Angela) Thom; sisters Paulette (Ron) Corbett and Jo-Anne (Don) Morris; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her dear friend and cousin Marion Webb.
In her early years Judy celebrated her Scottish heritage participating in highland dancing. She was an avid walker and really enjoyed visiting Seaside Park and Bayshore Beach.
Judy was also an animal lover and adopted several family pets when original owners could no longer care for them. She provided them with a loving and caring environment for the rest of their lives. She loved seeing animals saved on her favorite TV show Bondi Vet.
After graduating from Saint John Vocational School, she started her career in Insurance offices and ladies’ retail. It wasn’t until she became a home support care provider, with Comcare and Rivera Living, that she realized this was her true calling. She assisted seniors with daily household chores and developed some very dear friendships. This line of work became her purpose when caring for her parents in their later years.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ian Grant and the amazing compassionate staff of Carleton-Kirk Lodge nursing home and Murray Street Lodge special care home.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home (506) 634-1701 (309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB). In respecting Judy’s wishes, cremation has taken place with no immediate services following; a celebration of life will be held in the fall of 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Judy’s memory to either Parkinson’s Canada, Carleton-Kirk Lodge, Murray Street Lodge Special Care Home, or any animal wellness charity of your choice.
