Obituary of Effie Mae Hogan
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Effie Mae (Freda) Hogan announces her passing which occurred at the Church of Saint John St. Stephen Nursing Home, on Thursday August 31, 2023. Born on March 5, 1940 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia she was the daughter to the late Dan and Mabel Macdonald.
She was full of life and had a huge heart. It was well known that Freda’s home was a home to anyone as she would welcome you with open arms, no matter what. She strived to not only help her loved ones, but the community surrounding her. If Freda wasn’t home knitting or reading, she was out taking an active part in the community and volunteering her time to those in need. As well as having an active roll in many functions Freda was also a proud member of the womens auxiliary black community (WABC).
Freda also had a deep love for her pets, especially the wild kind. If she wasn’t volunteering her time or working away on one of her many hobbies, you could find her in her back yard sharing a peanut butter sandwich with her “pet” ground hogs.
Freda is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Brian (Beaver) Hogan; sons, Fred Hogan (Susan) and Jason Hogan (Robyn); daughters, Nadine Boudreau (Ron) and Anne McHugh; brother, Kenny MacDonald; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Freda was predeceased by her son Robert; sisters Audrey MacKay, Thelma Bowness, and Shirly MacDonald; brothers, Fred Macdonald, Norman Macdonald, Stuart MacDonald, and Gordie MacDonald; and her special niece Crystal Ann Loatman.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424).
