I had the good fortune of knowing Laurie for much of my life. Despite the many years-long gaps between seeing him, he was always first with a smile and handshake as soon as he saw you. I first met him as a kid playing hockey with Lancaster, and came to know him through his brother (my coach) George and his nephew Bruce (who left an indelible mark on all of us who knew him). Whether it was a classic backwoods hiking/fishing trip as a teenager or seeing him over the years at the golf course, Laurie was always someone who made you feel good when you saw him. Not many people in this world have that positive impact and we can all learn something from that special part of him. I really got to know Laurie when I was his neighbour on Brandy Point Road for a short time. While it was always easy to see how warm and friendly he was, it was working and enjoying time with him as a neighbour that really showed who he was. On behalf of all the Barry's and extended family that knew Laurie, we send our sincerest wishes that all of you can use this time with family and friends to celebrate and remember Laurie.

Sorry for your loss. The last conversation we had was at Costco and I was amazed at his acceptance of his illness. He enjoyed golfing with his brothers. I'm sure he and Max will get a few rounds in up there. RIP Laurie

So sorry to hear of Laurie's passing. After not seeing him for a few years, I ran into him in Grand Bay this fall and we had a nice chat. Laurie was always excited and eager to talk about business and other local events. We have dealt with the Melanson family for over 40 years, and continue to do so with the third generation. I think Laurie was proud of that, and that he was able to pass on his wisdom and work ethic. Truly a well known, and well respected member of our community. He will be missed.

Laurie and I were born within a month of each other. His first home was Milford and mine was Randolph, but we didn’t meet until we were competitors in the waste management industry, bidding on the same jobs. We became fast friends for over 40 years and shared a lot of great memories in our mutual love of old cars and car shows. He was a true gentleman, was always there to lend a helping hand when needed and will be greatly missed. Deepest condolences to Carmella, Brad and their families,
