Obituary of Sarah Willomina Richards

Peacefully, with her sons by her side Sarah W. (Sally) (Rathburn) Richards, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital Feb 20, 2024.

Daughter of Charles & Margaret (Maggie) Rathburn.  Sarah was born in Hibernia Queens Co. On April 14, 1937, where she made many lifelong friends “out back” before moving with her parents to Oak Point in 1953.  After marrying Stanley Richards, she spent most of her life on Greenwich Hill.

While raising her two boys, she waitressed at Ralph’s Restaurant in Grand Bay.  Later she was very proud to become an accomplished Floral Designer at Keirstead’s Flower Shop in Saint John, and later in life she loved being a caregiver to Danny Starkey.

Sally kept her little white house with her beloved flower gardens until she moved to the Kiwanis Lodge in Grand Bay (where she met her soul sister Joan Worden) and for the last year at Flores Care Home in Saint John.

Sally was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Irven, Walter, George and Delbert and her beloved sister Margaret Lindsay and sister-in-law Marie Rathburn.

Sally is survived by her two sons, Dwight Richards (Cindy) of Brown’s Flat, Jeffrey Richards (Christina) of Central Greenwich, her beloved grand children Erin Richards (Jamie Donald), Julie Marr (Jamie) and Dylan Richards, her precious great granddaughters Chloe, Hannah, and Peyton. Her greatest joy was being Nan 2 to those three little girls.  Sally is also survived by her brother John V. Rathburn (Barbara) and sister-in-law Gwen Murphy and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Mobin Ataellahi, the nursing staff of 5C North and 3B North, Tess Flores and Staff of Flores Care Home.  Your compassion and care made a hard road much easier.
