Obituary of Edna Evelyn Dever (Ackroyed)
It is with sadness that the family of Edna Evelyn Dever (Ackroyed, nee Williams) announce her passing on February 21, 2024, at the Loch Lomond Villa “The Village”. Born in Smithfield, NB, on April 26, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Reta (nee Burns) Williams.
Edna was a caring and hardworking mother. She stayed at home to look after her children until they were young adults. She then took this opportunity to work at the DVA and then the Saint John Regional Hospital until her retirement. Edna had a comical side to her and teased or played little pranks on her family.
Edna loved to garden and always had a fabulous garden regardless of what Mother Nature threw at her. She also loved to bake and make homemade apple jelly from her apple tree in her backyard.
Edna is survived by her daughters: Bonita (Dennis) Murray-Weir, Barbara (Danny) Saunders, and Brenda (Keith) Johnson; sons Richard (Angela) and Byron (Dorine) Ackroyed; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother David Williams; sisters Bessie (Vaughan) Messer and Barbara MacLaughlin; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members Donna Williams.
Besides her parents, Edna was predeceased by her first husband Byron Ackroyed, second husband Joseph Dever, brother Albert Williams, and sisters: Annie Williams, Mary Williams, Marie McGee, Hazel Gamblin, Charlotte Weston, Mildred Barton, and Margaret Moore; son-in law Douglas Murray; nephews Micheal Williams and Bruce McGee; and brothers-in-law: Cecil McGee, Edmond Christie, Carl Weston, Donald McLaughlin, Harold Gambin, and David Shields.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home (506) 634-1701 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John NB. Visitation for Edna will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will directly follow beginning at 1:00PM in the Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
