Obituary of George Edward Stackhouse
George Stackhouse, husband of nearly 58 years to Linda (Hatheway), went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. He passed after a period of illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on January 29, 1938, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Harley) Stackhouse.
George spent 12 years in the Canadian Army, 6 years as a member of the Saint John Police Force, and then worked as a Machinist for Irving Pulp and Paper for 30 years before retiring. He was a proud member of North Side Assembly and found joy in greeting others as they entered on Sunday mornings. In his spare time, he volunteered as a Bobby with the Saint John Fire Police at the museum on Prince William Street, as a radio host with CFMH at UNBSJ, at the Salvation Army, and doing the poppy campaign with the Royal Canadian Legion. He was happiest when surrounded by his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Linda, George is survived by their children: Bill (Amy), Cathy Chalk (Iain), Michael (Beth), Danny (Jill), and Tim (Rena); his sister, Mary Stackhouse (Dave Campbell); brothers, Ron (Julie) and Harley (Sylvia); as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and volunteers of 3CS for their care and compassion shown to them throughout George’s time there. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Visitation will be held at North Side Assembly, 363 Millidge Avenue, on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. The service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital or Quilts of Valour would be appreciated by the family.
