Obituary of Gerald Grover Butler
It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald G. “Gerry” Butler wish to announce his unexpected passing on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his residence in Musquash N.B. He was born in Saint John, N.B. on December 12, 1954, to the late Thomas Murray and Rita Mary (Babineau) Butler.
Gerry is survived by his daughter Cheyanne Delta Wright (Rob LeBlanc) of Saint John, one sister, Susan Mary (Butler) Beale of Saint John, sister–in–law Mary Butler; nephews, Andrew Beale, Mark & Michael Butler, and niece, Jill Butler.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents Thomas “Tom” and Rita, brother William “Bill” Butler, and infant brother Ronald Butler, his canine companions, (aka the Newfs) Ruff & Tuff, Come Bye Chance and Jessy, and his very special German Shepherd “Angel”.
Gerry was employed for many years by the Anglophone South School Board, first as a School Bus Driver (which he loved), and then as a Custodian until his retirement. He then worked as Security on various placements, with his favourite being the “Annual Rib Fest”. He was also very involved in various community groups in Charlotte County and the surrounding area, and especially with Saint John N.B. Dog Rescue. He was always searching for homes for dogs in need.
Gerry was a very talented drummer and played with various groups in and around the Saint John area. He had a true passion for music, especially that of Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard and was so proud to have met them both.
A true country boy at heart, Gerry was very content to live life simply in his precious Musquash, and spent his days helping anyone or any animal he could, however he could. He had a heart of gold.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. A brief visitation will be held on Friday May 31st, 2024 from 10:30am to 12:30pm, to be immediately followed by a Memorial Service at Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 1:00pm. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Casual attire is welcomed. Donations may be made in memory of Gerry to Bobby’s Hospice, the Saint John SPCA, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
