Any time I attended a worship service or other event at Portland United, Shirley’s smile, soft voice and kind words would greet me. We spoke often and I always enjoyed and appreciated our brief visits. She was a woman of strong faith in our Lord and an encouragement to all who knew her.

Forty + years ago the Stone family moved to the house next door to Shirley and Don in Millidgeville. Over the years Shirley and I became good friends and shared many happy times together, shopping, eating out and going for either coffee or ice cream, (a favourite of Shirley).
As my children grew, Shirley was always there for us to house/dog sit when Brian and I went on various trips, both business and
pleasure. She was a great dog-walker and enjoyed strolling the local streets with our 4 legged family, sometimes 3 at a time. Sometimes we just went out for a drive in the park and a chin-wag. She enjoyed her crocheting and produced many coloured dishcloths to share, and later, prayer shawls.
Shirley looked forward to Sundays and her regular visits to church and later when her mobility made it more difficult for her I know she was grateful for the wonderful people who would walk her there and back each Sunday.
You were a good friend Shirley. Now Rest in Peace.
Valerie.

‘For every time there is a season…’ . We are sad to say good bye to Shirley. But because she knew her Saviour it is with joyful hearts we choose the memories. For so many years we have been neighbours and friends. We have shared much laughter and yes, some tears. The tender way she cared for her plants, the many, many crochet dish clothes she hand made over the years and recipes we shared. She was a great cook and loved to share the bounty! We will miss you sweet Shirley.
We care and will always remember that our world is just a bit better because of you.
