Obituary of Laurence Albert White
Laurence Albert White, husband of Lois Jane (Doherty) White passed away on Monday July 8, 2024, at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home. Born in St Stephen, New Brunswick on January 7,1939, he was the son of the late Myrtle Irene (Purdy) White and Morton Albert White.
Laurence was a graduate of Saint John Vocational School 1957.
He was the Founder and President of White Refrigeration Service Ltd 1964 to 1987, and Past President and Honorary Member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society of Canada. He was a Red Seal Certified Refrigeration Mechanic and an instructor at the New Brunswick Community College in St Andrews NB. 1987 to 2004 as well , he taught refrigeration practical theory, thermodynamics and air conditioning at Cienfuegos University in Cuba and the Universidad de Autonomous de Baja de California in Mexico. He also held a specialist degree in Refrigeration Air Conditioning; both residential and electrical, through the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.
He was a member of the Carlton Cornet Band 1952 to 1958, the Band of the First Battalion Royal New Brunswick Regiment 1958 to 1963, the Lancaster Legion Br. 69 Band 1963 to 1975, Saint Mary’s Band, Brass and Reid Band 1975 to the present. He was a member of the Board of Deacons Lancaster Baptist Church, Saint John, NB and St Andrews Baptist Church Street Saint Andrews NB and past President of Passamaquoddy Branch No 8 Royal Canadian Legion, St Andrews NB.
He married Lois in 1960, and she was the love of his life as well as their children, grandchildren, and great-grand children.
Besides his wife Lois, Laurence is survived by one son Ross (Cora Lee Parkhill) of Saint John NB, two daughters, Cheryl Defazio of Saint John and Krista White (Marilyn Calleja) of Toronto, grand children, Natasha Craig (Ryan), Mitchell White, Mark Green, two great-grand sons, Bentley and Landon Craig. Also survived by four brothers, Allan (Hazel) of Saint John, Guy (Ann Marie) of St Stephen, Ronald (Lee) and Gordon (Janice) both of Saint John, two sisters-in-law, Maxine Puri and Diane (William) Nicholson, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents; Morton Albert and Myrtle Irene (Purdy) White, as well as, sister in-law Pauline Breen and her husband Michael, and son in-law Larry Defazio.
We would like to thank the care workers, medical practioners, staff and volunteers of Kennebec Manor for their exceptional support and loving care.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, (506 634 1701), A visitation will be held on Friday 12 July from 2pm - 3pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday July 12, 2024, at 3pm at Castle Fallsview Chapel. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will be held at Castle Funeral home following the Interment.
