Obituary of Mark Steven Cook
It’s with grieving hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved brother, “Mark Steven Cook.”
Mark passed away of cancer on August 10th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, in Saint John, NB, with family by his side.
Born on September 21st, 1964 in Saint John, NB, Mark was the third youngest of eleven children, to Donald and Vivian Cook.
Mark was a professional painter/crack filler, who was well known across Canada for his professionalism and work ethic. A hard and dedicated worker, Mark was well liked in his field and often, work would come to him, as word got out about his painting and crack fill expertise.
Mark’s love for antique cars and memorabilia was expressed throughout his apartment and he would often be found restoring these items to their pristine condition. He took great pride in his collectible antiques and had them displayed for all to see when visiting.
A “heart of gold,” always standing up for the underdog, Mark would take a punch to defend the helpless before someone took a shot at them.
Those that were close to Mark knew better than to say “WOW, Mark, where did you ever get that. It’s beautiful! I love it.” because Mark would automatically without having a second thought, say “you like it, it’s yours,” no matter how many times you say "no, Mark, that’s all right. I can’t take that from you,” he would say "no, I want you to have it.” Mark had a “big heart” and would give his shirt off his back to someone that needed it.
Mark’s “love for living life to the fullest,” was evident throughout his journey with cancer. A small framed man, with a “heart of a mighty warrior!” With such inner strength and determination, Mark ran the race fighting cancer with perseverance till the end.
Mark had our father’s fighting spirit and our mother’s strength and perseverance and his battle with cancer was no different. Mark fought the good fight and persevered through many operations, treatments, setbacks and always came out on top - “with a positive and hopeful attitude.” Living life each day to the fullest with gratitude and thankfulness, was Mark’s legacy.
Mark is survived by his brothers and sisters, Terry Clark of Saint John, NB, Daniel Cook (Nancy) of Grove Hill, NB, John Cook (Betty) of Saint John, NB, Brenda MacNeill of Saint John, NB, Heather Thorpe (Alan) of Summerside, PEI, David Cook (Sara) of Saint John, NB, Donna McMillan (Jim) of Alberta, Luke Cook (Tina) of Alberta and Timothy Cook (Tara) of Alberta; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by our father, Donald Robert Cook; mother, Vivian Nora Cook and sister, April Marie LeBlanc.
In keeping with Mark’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service for family only will be announced at a later date.
