Obituary of Robert Byron Greer
After a long period of failing health, the family of Bob Greer, beloved husband of Donna (Steele), passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024, on their 34th wedding anniversary. Born in Greenwich Parish, Kings County on May 17, 1938, he was a son of the late Byron Greer and Eleanor “Nellie” Oakes.
Bob served in the military for 13 years before becoming an architect for ADI and MMC. He was an outdoorsman who loved nature and the social gatherings at the camp. He was very kind and giving, and could often be found kicked back in his recliner with a bag of Lays and a cold beer, watching his westerns.
In addition to his loving wife, Donna, Bob is survived by his daughters: Tanya Bailey and Leah Greer-O’Connor; son, Daryl Bailey; brother, Wayne Greer (Sheila); grandchildren: Isaac and Isabelle Bailey; Isaiha Nice Bailey (Ro Marshawn) and Bronwyn and Gwenyth Sullivan; great-grandson, Marshawn Bailey; great-grandddaughter, Momo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by 15 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the team in Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and kindness in Bob's final days. Thank you also to Tanya's friend, Tanya Doyle, for being beside her while going up to the hospital in between seeing her mother with her broken hip and her father in Palliative Care, and to Tanya's friend Tabitha Fougere for playing music for Bob while Tanya visited her mother. Your kindness will not be forgotten and is greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral services at this time, however the family will celebrate his life together at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated and can be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
