Obituary of Colleen Mae Justason
With heavy hearts, but grateful for a life well-lived, the family of Colleen Justason, wife of the late Glendon Justason who passed away in 1984, announces her passing on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at her residence in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax. Born November 3, 1941, in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Vera (Nesbitt) Herd.
Dad and Mum loved to travel with family, going camping and taking winter trips to Florida. Mum was a stay-at-home mum until her husband’s passing, at which time she started working in the Post Office at Shoppers Drug Mart in Parkway Mall/Westmorland Road, where she worked for 25 years until her retirement. She loved spending time with her oldest grandson, Justin, who was lucky enough to live close to her so he could walk to his Nanny’s for special snacks that he couldn’t get at home.
Upon retirement, she moved to Dartmouth to live with her sister. Until her failing health prevented her from doing so, she delighted in being Sarah’s school bus, and then Aron’s, especially after her daughter Jill’s husband’s untimely passing.
Colleen is survived by her son, Robert (Cathy); daughter, Jill McGillicuddy; grandchildren: Justin (Natalie), Sarah, and Aron; great-grandchildren, Jaymie and Corrie; her brother, Bart (Gertie); sisters-in-law, Ruth Herd and Phyllis Justason; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her beloved husband, Glendon, Colleen was predeceased by her infant son, Mark; sister, Frances Hastings; brother, Ronald; son-in-law, John McGillicuddy; sister-in-law, Marlene Herd; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Justason and Howard Hastings.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), where visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10 am to 12 noon, at which time the funeral will begin in Brenan’s Chapel. A private family interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society or the IWK Children’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
