I have many memories of a beautiful person but this is a recent one. When Maureen was receiving her diagnosis, I’m sure with a huge amount of of overwhelming information, she was thinking and caring for others, as was her way, by teaching the health care practitioners how they could be doing a better job! Done in her kind and caring manner! I won’t forget this! And hopefully I can emulate it in someway.

Dear Maureen,
It was my privilege to know you for more than 50 years. May your rest be as peaceful as your life was rich and consequential. Godspeed, my friend.
And may your family find their own peace in the calm of gratitude and no regrets.
With love to all,

Maureen was my friend, and one of the most powerful spiritual influences in my life. She taught me how to pray in a Base Christian Community model, she gave me an accepting spiritual community. Maureen taught me about Jungian Dream Work, she showed me that love is the most important thing we can give to our students, and to each person we encounter. She taught me about leprechaun traps, whimsy, hope, and dancing for joy.
I know you are dancing again Maureen, and watching over us and still with us, with deep love.

This Ancient Love by Carolyn McDade, a song that Maureen shared with many of us:
Long before the night was born from darkness
Long before the dawn rolled unsteady from fire
Long before She wrapped her scarlet arm around the hills
there was a love, this ancient love was born.
Long before the grass spotted green the bare hillside
Long before a wing unfolded to wind
Long before She wrapped her long blue arm around the sea
there was a love, this ancient love was born.
Long before a chain was forged from the hillside
Long before a voice uttered freedom’s cry
Long before She wrapped her bleeding arms around a child
there was a love, this ancient love was born.
Long before the name of a God was spoken
Long before a cross was nailed from a tree
Long before She laid her arm of colors ‘cross the sky
there was a love, this ancient love was born.
Wakeful our night, Slumbers our morning
Stubborn the grass sowing green wounded hills
As we wrap our healing arms to hold what her arms held
this ancient love, this aching love rolls on.
Maureen is now fully held in this Ancient Love. May her family and all who loved her be held in Ancient Love, especially as they grieve her physical loss.
Maureen was one of a kind. No words can express her fully. But, as another friend quoted Maureen as saying, “It’s all about love,” she truly lived life this way. May we emulate this in her honour.

“It’s all about love.” ~ mf
These are words that Maureen lived by. It has been a blessing and a privilege to know and walk with Maureen over the years. She lived and taught mutuality, inclusivity, compassion, love, deep listening, presence, integrity, openness to alternative wisdom, and deep relationship with Holy Mystery. Her way of walking – and dancing – in the world was a delight to behold. It was contagious.
“Peace in every breath.” ~ mf
Indeed, Maureen breathed peace, joy and gratitude, in every grace-filled step. She was courageous in all circumstances. She recognized the gift and the hope in each moment – even in the most challenging moments.
“Be amazed!” ~ mf
Maureen was in deep relationship with all of creation, and expressed with joy and delight her “wondrous” and “glorious” encounters with the natural world.
“What do you notice?” ~ mf
Maureen was fully present and attentive to life unfolding within and around her, and she invited others to do the same.
“What is the newness that is being invited in this moment?” ~ mf
Maureen was open to the new, and her leadership in the Circle Way process has been a gift to many of us. A gift that will endure.
“A gentle invitation …” ~ mf
Maureen had a heart for justice, and would gently invite our consideration and action on behalf of those who are suffering injustice, including the suffering Earth. Her engagement as a Kairos Blanket Exercise Facilitator was one of many such actions, as she worked to raise awareness of our shared history, and to honour and uplift Indigenous peoples.
“On we go, together …”
Yes, Maureen, on we go together, in a new way. Your shimmering, loving, dancing light will shine on throughout the earth.
This is a quote by St. Vincent de Paul which Maureen shared during a pilgrimage some years ago …
“It is not enough to give soup and bread.
This the rich can do.
It is only for your love alone that the poor will forgive you the bread that you give to them.”
And a song that we dance with the Dances of Universal Peace circle here on the west coast … “Love, Serve and Remember” by John Astin – this speaks to me of Maureen’s life.

My deepest condolensces to Maureen's sisters, brother and family, and to her religious family the Sisters of Charity of Immaculate Conception. We have all lost such a lovely, gracious, kind, and warm Spirit who journeyed with us. And now in new ways she remains with us, in our hearts and so many fond memories. The celebration-in-slides is a wonderful tribute revealing her joyfulness in so many settings. We came to know each other while I studied at Newman College in '80-'81. I was entering the SC's of Halifax and she'd begun her journey with the SCIC's. Our paths converged again in the mid to late '80s while I served in pastoral work at Sacred Heart Parish in Edm. She'd danced at her ceremony of vows which I'd attended. Maureen had such a deep and real love of God which shone so bright in her presence, respect, gentleness, and reverence with others. In the last two decades we converged again on the west coast and our friendship continued to be blessed. I will miss her as we all will. Deep Peace and Joy to you, dear Maureen Anne, as you now journey into the warm embrace of the Loving Mystery of the whole universe! I can only imagine your ecstaic joy in this homecoming!

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Maureen lived in a manner that reflected these attributes of love. She walked and danced across the face of the Earth with joy, poise, hope, dignity, courage, grace, patience and love. She noticed all, especially those on the margins, and welcomed them into friendship.
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation…” Isaiah 52:7. Maureen’s beautiful footprints are tenderly etched in many hearts.
Our deepest condolences to Maureen’s family and friends, as well as the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception and Associates.

My sincere sympathy to Maureen's congregation and siblings as you mourn her death. She died much too soon. Though I didn't know her well I do have fond memories of her warm smile, welcoming spirit and her graceful liturgical movement at meetings I attended a number of years ago. As she rejoices now in God's presence may she dance to the songs of the angels. Peace and prayers, Rosemary MacDonald, Sister of St. Martha of PEI

It has been a privilege to call Maureen a friend. Though the years there have been occasions when we shared faith stories and times of sharing our lives and the concerns of others. Laughter and joy surrounded her throughout her life in ministry. She lived her vocation with integrity and a joyful spirit of generous, loving listening. Our deepest sympathy to all her siblings and family, her sisters in community, and to all who have had the privilege of being in her presence.
