It is with heavy heart to hear of the passing of another New Glasgow school classmate. I remember Kent and his family looking after the West Side outdoor Skating rink for years. We spent many evenings going round and round to the music loud and clear over the speakers and then into the hut with the pot belly stove to warm our frozen feet, ready to go back for more!!. It was great seeing Kent and his wife, Jane, at our 50th and 60th High School reunions. Many memories to cherish. My condolences to all his family. He was truly a gentleman. Pat (Martin) Dickie

My sincere condolences to Jane and the MacKay family in the passing of Kent MacKay. I met Kent’s brother, (the late) Kirby MacKay in 1994 and within the year we travelled to meet his mother, Elda, Kent, Jane, and the rest of the MacKay family. Through the years we enjoyed many good times. Kent and Kirby were best friends and enjoyed playing many tennis matches, golf games, and lots of cribbage. Kirby and I married in 1998. I was very thankful when Kent came to Ottawa to be with Kirby before he passed in 1999. He kept his spirits up with good conversation and many fun competitive cribbage games. I will miss Kent. My best friend for many, many years. At age 16 while babysitting for a wealthy family who owned a mysterious house, six high school boys came to visit. The parents came home early. While they were entering the front door Kent was yelling at the top of the stairs: "AND IN THIS CORNER, WEARING A RED DRESS". Rest in Peace Kent! Love Linda (Mackie) Little

Dear Jane and family I am so sorry to hear of Kent’s passing. I’ve known Kent since our earliest years in Sunday School at the Kirk (St. Andrew’s Presbyterian) in New Glasgow. I remember his parents with fond memories, his mother was a sweetheart and so pretty. Jane, I met you at a school reunion at Mary Sproull’s a few years ago. Cherish your memories. RIP Kent. I was saddened to see that Kent passed away. I met him while I was on staff at ABSDA and had the privilege of working with him over the years on the Association's Show Committee. He was a great industry ambassador and a true gentleman.

I was very sorry to hear that Kent had passed. I worked with him at Thornes for many years and he was always friendly and nice. Even years later when I would see him in passing, (usually in Calais, for some reason) he would greet me by name and was always pleasant. My condolences to all of his family and friends. Very sorry to hear of Mr. McKay’s passing. He was manager of Thorne’s when I worked a summer and Christmas season in 1974. Years later, we met again as he lived next to my cousin Lorna’s friend, Linda Pye. He attended many of my family’s celebrations. Unfailingly kind and jovial, I know he will be cherished in memory by all who had the great luck to have met him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rochelle (Kelly) Crawford
