Obituary of Phyllis Irene McGrath
With heavy hearts, the family of Phyllis Irene (Brown) McGrath, wife of the late Allen McGrath, announce her passing on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born May 8, 1942, in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Loretta (Joyce) and Harold Brown.
Phyllis was raised in the North end but was a Westsider for over 50 years. She worked as a custodian at Barnhill School for many years. She was a member of TOPS and the St. Rose Church CWL. Upon retirement she found joy in playing bingo, and spending time with her family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Paul McGrath (Patsy), Sharon LeBlanc (Mike), Susan McGrath (Joe), and Lisa Landry-Wells (Wayne); grandchildren: Melinda (Dan), Vanessa, Michael (Renea), Megan, Ethan, Xavier, and Alexander; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Connor, Lila, Jaelyn, Desmond, Juniper, and Onyx; brothers and sisters: Joyce Bugg, Patsy Brown, Ronnie Brown, Michael Brown (Sandra), Linda Brown, Cathy Coes (Don), and Geraldine O’Hara (Donnie); sisters-in-law, Cathy Brown and Elaine Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and her husband, Phyllis was predeceased by her brothers: Gordon, Harold, and Fred; and sisters, Mary and Margaret.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), where visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Spirit Parish- St. Rose Worship Site, 541 Milford Road, Saint John, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 12 pm. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery and a reception will follow the interment at the Dennis Morris Community Centre.
