Obituary of James Francis McCollum

McCollum, James Francis- It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family of James Francis McCollum Sr, loving husband to Hilda (Lilly) McCollum, announces his passing which occurred on Thursday, March 3 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1931 to the late Robert and Muriel (Kelter) McCallum. James, better known to many as Gramps, was a brilliant outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATV’s, and being at his camp in Moose Lake with his boys. He was an avid bowler, perfecting his technique in refinishing candle pin bowling pins and balls, and he loved to play golf, however above all he was a great family man. Gramps loved all of his children and grandchildren but most of all he enjoyed spending time with Hilda, the love of his life. Gramps will be dearly missed by his surviving family, his wife Hilda, his children: Bonnie Brooker, James (Marilyn) McCollum, Ross (Cathy) McCollum, Donald (June) Denton, Wayne (Pat) Denton and James (Jo) Denton, his grandchildren: Tamara and Marley, Nora and Scott, Donna, Jennifer and Carrie, Michael and Jody and Cyndy-Lynn, Amanda, Braylon, Angie and Ryan, several great grandchildren, his sisters-in-law: Leah McCallum and Jean McCallum along with many nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, James is predeceased by his brothers: Elliot McCollum, Edgar McCallum, Clarence McCallum and Drummond McCallum, sister-in-law: Margaret McCollum, son-in -law Peter Brooker and grandson Joshua Denton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of 3CN, with mention to Nurses Sarah, Tiffany, Britany, Dr. Neil Young and also Granddaughters Jody Melvin and Cyndy-Lynn Denton who were instrumental in Gramps’s care. Your compassion, care and kindness will not be forgotten. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) where a visitation will be held on Monday, March 7 from 10am until service time at 12 Noon in the Bay View Chapel.
