Obituary of William Louis Sweet

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William Louis Sweet on June 8, 2016 at Carlton Kirk Nursing Home. Billy was born on July 25, 1956 in Saint John, NB and would have been 60 years old this summer. As a lifelong resident of West Saint John, Billy raised his family in Randolph, West Saint John. He attended Denis Morris Memorial School then on to Vocational High School. He is survived by his four children, Kellie Anne (Aaron) Delaney of Saint John, NB, Ashley Dawn (Chris) Dunbar of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Sheelagh Lynn (Matt) Swyers of Saint John, NB and Daniel Paul (Elaine Moir) Sweet of Toronto, ON; as well as their mother, Sheila (Sweet) Lingley and his special friend, Shelley Belyea. Billy is also survived by his eight wonderful grandchildren, Lauryn, Wyatt, Kiera, Kelsey, Brody, Kayley, Kaleb, Kameron and his five sisters, Sharon (Phil) Sweet, Fern (Gordie) Lockhart, Donna (Danny) Nash, Jackie Whittaker and Lorraine (Howard) Robbins; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lois (Goldie) and Jack Sweet; as well as his brother-in-law, Addison Whittaker. He was a kind and loving, giving, husband and father who worked hard to support his family. He enjoyed hockey all his life, a Habs fan until the end. Billy started playing hockey when he was 7 years old. He played School Boy Hockey then on to Lancaster Minor Hockey where he excelled as a defenseman. He was then asked to play by Ingham Palmer for the Saint John Junior B’s, then on to the very rough Centennial League. He joined the Gentleman’s League as well as the Irving Equipment Team with his co-workers. Billy worked for Irving Equipment for 40 years as a crane operator. He loved his job and he was very good at it. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Local 6770. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his love for telling a good joke. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
