Obituary of Leonard Joseph Thomas Pitre

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leonard J. T. Pitre, devoted husband of 58 years to Bernise M. (Allain) Pitre, announces his passing, which occurred on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in East Bathurst, NB on November 26, 1938, he was the eldest son of the late Rudolph and Gladys (Landry) Pitre. Leonard worked as a carpenter and doing maintenance for Rothesay Paper (Irving Paper Mill) for over 35 years. Leonard was very handy, and was known for building lawn furniture, which he sold out of his front yard. He also enjoyed hunting and listening to country music. In addition to his loving wife, Bernise, Leonard will be missed by his children, Reggie Pitre (Tina), Irene Michaelsen (Donnie), Denise Williams (Michael), Rene Pitre (Paula McKay) and Giselle Lively (Terry); his siblings, Geraldine Duguay (Donat), Anita Gagnon (the late Alphonse), Yvonne Martel (Leonard), Susan Aubie (the late Eldon), Robert Pitre (Shirley), Gabrielle LeBlanc (Roger), Joe Pitre (Kathy) and Rose-Marie Pitre; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law and his grandson, Daniel. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visiting on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 from 6-8 pm and Thursday, November 24, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Knights of Columbus will have a tribute service on Thursday at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Matthew’s Church, 45 Dollard Drive, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the ALS Society, Alzheimer Society or Rocmaura Foundation. Interment will take place at St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
