Obituary of Gerald Joseph Vincent Power

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald "Gerry" Joseph Vincent Power, wife of Margaret (Whittaker) Power, of Saint John announce his passing, which occurred on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on March 9, 1951 in Halifax, NS, he was the son of the late Clement and Jean (MacDonald) Power. Gerry was employed at Xerox for 15 years working both in sales and as a solutions specialist. Gerry volunteered for the Saint John Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and was a regular blood donor. He was also a homestay parent for international students, spent countless hours working for Habitat for Humanity with the opening of the ReStore, and was also a pioneer of the "Day of Sharing" for Xerox Canada. Gerry was also involved with World Hope and spent time helping with the clean up efforts after Hurricane Katrina. One could say he was always looking for some place to help. In his spare time, he enjoyed engaging in carpentry projects and had an amazing sense of humor. He loved an early morning walk on the beach watching the waves and hiking the Irving nature park. Gerald is survived by his children: Lorne (Sarah) Power, Ryan Power, Michael (Jennifer) Hines and Stephen Hines; grandchildren: Alayna and Aiden Hines; brother, John (Eleanor) Power; sisters: Mary (Chris) Woods and Carmel (Donald) Powers and many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law Marlo Dianne Foss. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. A memorial service will follow in Brenan’s Bay View Chapel at 2:00 PM. This will be a time to celebrate Gerry’s life, for those who wish to share, please bring your best "Gerry story or memory". Remembrances may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Saint John Food Bank or a charity of the donor’s choice.
