Obituary of Eldon William MacLean

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Eldon William MacLean of Grand Bay-Westfield, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Eldon was born in Burtts Corner on May 27, 1941and was the son of the late Adrian and Ella (Urquhart) MacLean. He leaves to grieve his wife of 54 years, Kathryn (Hallett) MacLean, his daughters Bonnie (Donnie) Johnson and Julie (Brent) Vail; his grandchildren, Jared and Kaylie Johnson, Cole Vail, Sadie McLean and great grandchildren, Caitlelynn, Declan and Delilah; his sister Anita (David) Cass and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Bill, grandson Tyrell and his brother Gerald. A truck driver all his life, Eldon was an owner/operator for Speedway, Brookville, Maritime-Ontario, Polar Bear and Kevin Byers Transport Companies. He also drove for Domkraft, Warren, RMG, Jack Hill and Paul Smith. He drove the grip truck for the movie "Children of a Lesser God" in 1985 and also had a small part in the movie. Eldon prided himself in keeping a clean immaculate truck and keeping himself that way also. He was very competent, dependable, a hard worker and a good man. He often said he saw all of North America through the windshield of a semi. In his retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed camping and bluegrass festivals. Eldon was a member of the Grand Bay Baptist Church from where the funeral will be held. Arrangement are in the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22 from 2-4 and 6-8. The Funeral Service will be held at Grand Bay Baptist Church, 77 Woolastook Drive, Grand Bay, on Thursday, March 23 at 2 PM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
