Obituary of Katherine Josephine Hurley

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Katherine "Kay" Josephine (Dunham) Hurley, wife of the late Brian F. Hurley on Monday, March 27, 2017, surrounded by family at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on June 2, 1939 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William and Edna (Savage) Dunham. Kay spent her early years growing up in Milford with many friends that have lasted her lifetime. She worked through the years at GE – Lancaster before becoming a professional Hair Stylist, and in her later years as an events co-ordinator at the Loch Lomond Villa. Her real job was being a loving wife and mother to her 5 sons. Kay was a "true" hockey mom and enjoyed sports both as a supporter and participant, having been active in bowling, curling and most recently in the "Thursday Rummoli Club". She enjoyed summers with family and friends at Cambridge-Narrows, "road trips" with the Milford Crew, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay is survived by four sons: Dan (Kathi), Paul (Kelly), Stephen (Tammy) and Brian (Kelly); 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Donna Dyker and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Kay was predeceased by her son, Thomas and brother, Ronald. The family would like to pay tribute to the exceptional care provided by the staff at the CCU at the SJRH. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4 pm – 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Rose of Lima, 541 Milford Road, West Saint John on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the Mass. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
