Obituary of Mary Ramsay Brockway

****LOCATION CHANGE**** It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Mary Ramsay Nee Armstrong Brockway, announce her sudden passing on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at her home. Mary was born in Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, Scotland on December 24, 1918 and was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Love) Armstrong. Mary lived in Clyde Bank, Scotland. She worked at John Brown’s General Store until the start of World War II. Mary was still living in Clyde Bank during the Blitz and was known as "Rosy the Riveter" during her time working on the war planes. Mary came to Canada in 1946 on the Queen Mary I as a war bride and made her home in Bonny River where she raised her five children and was a member of the Second Falls Baptist Church. Mary’s faith never wavered, nor did her commitment and devotion to learning and living by the bible, to which she was very studious. She sang in the choir with the voice of an angel and many will remember her angelic voice singing "O Holy Night". In 1970, she followed her daughters to Saint John where she made many friends and touched the hearts of everyone she met. Mary later became a member of Saint Columba Church and was a former member of the Eastern Star Mission. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her only son Hughie Brockway in 1969 and daughter Janice Parker in 1999, a great granddaughter, Amelia, her two brothers: Willie and Hugh Armstrong as well as her older sister Christina, all of Scotland. Surviving are her daughters: Janet Brockway (twin to Janice), Judith Craft and Frances (Charles) Stevens. Mary was adored by her grandchildren: Monica (Jack) O’Neill, Blake (Megan) Leavitt, Tracey (Paul) Therrien, Roy (Kathleen) Craft, Lori (Joe) Magee, Lisa Parker, Michael Parker and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, Michelle and Wilma, from Scotland and son-in-law Douglas Craft. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John(634-7425) where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
